DO YOU CARE?

"Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?"

Matthew 26: 38-40 King James Version

Jesus asked them to share His pain and sorrow, yet they fell asleep. Today, we do the same thing to Jesus. He asks us to share one another’s burdens and pray for them and many times we allow other things to detract us.

A dear Pastor friend of mine in Texas said in a sermon, "When someone asks you to pray for him or her, do it immediately". He said that he used to write the prayer requests down and pray for them at the end of the day when it was less hectic. He told us that many times he was so exhausted at the end of the day from his busy schedule and emotionally drained because of counseling fifteen to twenty people a day, that he started to pray and fell asleep. He said that now when someone asks for prayer, he immediately prays for that person.

God has convicted me of the same thing. I would write the requests down to pray for them at the end of the day, and then I would fall asleep. Now, as soon as someone asks me to pray, I immediately say "Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I lift my brother or sister up to You asking You to please meet the need".

The length of our prayers does not impress God. What touches Him is the condition of our heart when we pray. It is not necessary for us to know every detail to pray for someone. God knows all about the prayer request and He is waiting for someone to intercede for it. We need to make sure that our hearts are right with Jesus before we pray for someone else.

Do you care enough to shut off the television when someone calls and asks you to pray, or do you have to wait until the program or game is over? How much do you care about your family and friends?
