Charles Spurgeon About Preaching Christ Crucified
The Sword and Trowel, 1889, p.36

"O that preachers would give us as little as possible of their mathematics, and as much as possible of Christ crucified.

It may be a grand thing to puzzle an audience, but it must be a far better thing to edify . . . and to comfort. Take a little more trouble to make your statements plainer, and everybody will be the better for it."
