WALK IN THE SPIRIT - 2
Galatians 5:16 - Romans 8:14
The title above is a directive given by the apostle expressing
the will of God for saved ones. It is an impossibility for an unsaved
one to follow. To be sure, the walk is based on the Word of God. The word
"walk" occurs 96 times; also rendered "be occupied"; "be walking"; "go"; and,
"walk about", one time each.
It has to do with activity. This activity will be that ordered in the
Word of God.
The text implies the saved are under 2 influences:
(a) "the flesh" and
(b) "the Spirit".
The Spirit of God deals with the "new man" or "new creature," 2 Corinthians 5:17;
Ephesians 2:15; 4:24. The "old man" is to be put off, being crucified, Ephesians 4:22;
Colossians 3:19; Romans 6:6.
The Spirit of God is our helper in this matter. We are called upon to "put on
the new man". The Spirit teaches us, John 14:26; He will guide us into all truth",
as we have noted before, John 16:13. It is said we "are led of the Spirit of God,...",
Romans 8:14.
In summary we are by the Spirit taught, guided, and led. This is done relative
to the Truth, the Word, or the Word of God. When this action is complete, we know what
we are; and, are now supposed to do, as children of God. It is at this juncture that
we must put off the old man, or the flesh, and "walk in the Spirit"; knowing it is
the will of God.
I wish you well, but be sure the foe of the Truth will resist; and the old man will
oppose the new man. Call for help! Pray, and resist, James 4:7; I Peter 5:8-10. DDH
