THO'TS ON HELL-2
Hell is not an uplifting study; but, it might be an awakening
one for someone who is yet lost. "Lost" describes a condition
of one who is estranged from God by sin. "For the Son of
man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.", Luke
19:10.
Each and everyone "was lost" "For all have sinned and
come short of the glory of God;", Romans 3:23. Since we have
all sinned, therefore we are lost. And we remain lost until we
are saved by faith in Jesus as Saviour.
Hell is the sinner's final destiny.
One, Jesus, can change the course. Let's review what sin
brings at the end. Jesus Himself opened up the specter of Hell
so we could see it, in Luke 16:19-26. Jesus is telling of it
- - - He would not lie. Hebrews 4:16 says He ". . . . was in all
points tempted like as we are, yet without sins.". Let's observe a
few facts:
(a) Hell is a 'PLACE", Luke 16:28.
(b) They were CONSCIOUS; as being "tormented" shows, vss. 23, 24, 25, 28.
(c) There is NO REPRIEVE, vs. 26.
(d) The "torment" is from an understandable source, "THIS FLAME", vs. 24.
In years past I heard folk quip, using the term 'hells fire'.
One can literally shudder at that thought.
This 'sneak preview' of hell is given, and should be a real
eye opener for those who:
(1) shun the church or gathering when the Gospel is presented.
For it is the"gospel of Christ", Romans 1:16.
(2) Which gospel is used of the Holy Spirit to convict you
of your sinfulness.
(3) The Word and the Spirit points to Jesus as Saviour, by
repentance and faith, Mark 1:15.
(4) Christ is our only hope: ". . . Sirs what must I do to be saved?
And they said , Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt
be saved,...", Acts 16:30-31.
You see, he was instructed, was repentant, and told to look
to Jesus in faith - - - he did, and thereafter "rejoiced", 34.
Hell is horrible - - - Salvation is sublime! DDH.
