"STUDY . . . THE WORD OF TRUTH." - 2 Timothy 2:15 (3)
In reviewing our text cited above; we see that "Study" of the
"word of truth:", has a worthy result. One becomes "a workman"
in the cause of God. This Greek word is translated three ways
as "worker", "workman", and "labourer".
Many names are attached to those who work in the vineyard
of the Lord. They may be pastors, teachers, or members of a
given church. In each case we are to be "doers of the word" as
stated in James 1:22,23,25. We are not saved to sit, we are to
serve as saved ones.
Busy-ness in an of itself is not meritorious. As one is
prepared by "rightly dividing the word of truth" then and only then
is he ready to teach others. Jesus told the disciples "Let your light
so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven.", Matthew 5:16. You have
to gain the light before you let it shine.
"Rightly dividing" is translated from a Greek word composed
of two parts. It has to do with accuracy and alignment. If one so
does it, he will not get his 'foot in his mouth' as he presents the
Scriptures to his own confusion.
Many have found, as I did, that when pressed to choose be-
tween what the Bible says and what their books of their leaders
say---they choose NOT the Bible , but their books. Once I said
"since the books say different from the Bible---put your hand on
the one you choose". They refused, but said they believed what
their books said.
The Bible student who is "rightly dividing the word of truth."
can go to others to teach (and this we SHOULD do):
(a) he will 'not be ashamed',
(b) He will have 'God's approval',
(c) He will be God's "workman". God will be pleased and hearers will
be edified, IF they receive the truth. Souls will be saved and
built up in the most holy faith, See Jude vs. 20. DDH.
