"STUDY . . . THE WORD OF TRUTH." - 2 Timothy 2:15 (2)
Let's comment on the word "Study". It is used in the old, as well as
the New Testament. Proverbs15:28 says in part "The heart of the
righteous studieth to answer; . . .". "Studieth" carries the meaning
of thoughtfulness or meditating. It is different from just reading and
passing on. I have read the Bible times when such a program was promoted.
I often found myself getting off schedule because I stopped to study
along the way. I dare say, I do not doubt that many, many others have
the same experience.
Ecclesiastes 12:12 says ". . . much study is a weariness of the flesh".
Study is not easy; just reading, may be. The renowned Solomon gave us
these two passages --- about study, in which he envoked study. In both
cases it was an application of thought and meditating. As Christians
we are too often lazy about spiritual matters. It should not be so.
Our text verse tells us to "Study", 2 Timothy 2;15. When one is
young in the Lord,it is difficult to pronounce some of the Bible words,
let alone understand them. They are not always ones in our normal useage;
or, in our secular educational systems. There are some good helps to
be had.
There are many 'helps' that only confuse ". . . the faith once delivered unto the saints.", Jude vs 3. Many mature 'laymen' or pastors and
teachers would be glad to help you understand certain words or passages
of Scripture. Experience tells us that the Bible is the best commentary
on the Bible: ". . . comparing spiritual things with spiritual. This
word is given us by the Lord through the apostle Paul.
With a little investment, you can buy a concordance of the Bible.
