Chapter 8It was never God's plan for the church to reform the world. His plan is, and has always been, for the church to present Christ to the world. Paul said, "God forbid that I should preach anything save Jesus Christ and Him crucified." Many say that the world is getting better and better and that after a while we will be so good that we will go into the thousand years of peace. They think the time is at hand. They shut their eyes to two things: 1. The signs of the times. Our divorce courts overflowing; immorality everywhere; churches (modernists) without power. The family life broken up, and on, and on. 2. The Word of God, in Matthew 24, says the world in the last days will be as it was in the days of Noah. In that day (Genesis 6:5) man's every thought was evil, even the imaginations of his heart. Il Timothy 4:3-4 says there will be a falling away and people will believe a lie and be damned. The first chapter of Romans also gives a picture of the terrible condition of the world when Christ shall come back. II Timothy 4:3-4 says the day will come when the people will not endure sound doctrine, but will have preachers preach what they desire to hear. Read the entire chapter of Il Timothy 4 and it makes plain that the world will not improve until Christ comes, but instead will grow more and more wicked. The church will not, nor was it ever intended to bring in the millennium ---- so, after all, it is not a failure. |
